Yarn Substitutes
The best yarn you can use is a durable yarn that is soft for baby feet but also low maintenance and machine washable.
Here are some wool yarns alternatives to the original yarn I have used. Premium acrylic yarns would also make a great substitute.
- Paintbox Yarns 100% Wool Worsted Superwash – Oekotex certified, this classic twist yarn in 100g balls, is a fantastic price for pure wool. Made from 100% superwash wool means you can machine wash on a wool cycle
- Cascade 220 – 100% Peruvian highland wool, this glorious yarn crochets up as a worsted-to-aran weight, suitable for any aran pattern.
Cotton Alternatives
If wool or acrylic are not the type of yarn you want to use, here are some cotton alternatives:
- Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton – The 24/7 Cotton is an everyday dream come true. This yarn is 100% mercerised cotton and is great for clothes, accessories, home textiles, things for the baby, toys for the kids, and pets.
- Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Solids – Lily Sugar and Cream The Original Solids is a natural, soft and absorbent aran weight yarn of 100% cotton, that comes in a range of rich and delicious solid shades.

Baby Booties Crochet Pattern Notes
- the booties are crocheted in rows using simple crochet stitches including half double crochet stitch worked through the third loop at the back (aka camel stitch)
- the booties are made up of a flat piece of fabric and the size is suitable for newborn booties or 3-6 months size
- you will sew the piece together to form the booties along the long edge to create the sole and sew the opening at the back of the heel
- these adorable baby booties are then finished off with a round of reverse single crochet (aka crab stitch) around the opening
- to adjust the length of the sole, increase /decrease the number of stitches on the foundation chain
- to adjust the width, add/take away an equal number of rows from sections 1, 2, and 3 of the rectangle.
- you can look up the length and width of foot on Craft Yarn Council Website HERE.
