This is a compilation of 10 super stylish and modern crochet cardigan patterns for women. Choose from different styles and constructions for a timeless classic in your wardrobe.

Crochet cardigan or crochet sweater? Crochet sweater or crochet cardigan? I have recently been asked whether I prefer cardigan or sweater.

Now you know that to a crochet garment designer that is a tough question. Almost like Sophie’s choice… However, thinking about it more and more I think I might have chosen my favourite.

Although I prefer wearing a crochet cardigan, when it comes to making and designing garments, I could not chose between the two.

However, when it comes to wearing one, I will choose crochet cardigan. Here are my reasons why…

Firstly, because you are very likely to wear a decent top underneath, you can take the cardigan off easily if you get too hot. Not talking about messing up my mum’s bun whenever I try to take a sweater off.

Secondly, layers… My mum always taught me to wear layers. She used to say “you can always take a layer off if you get too hot, but if you get cold, you will be cold”

Thirdly, crochet cardigan is more versatile in my eyes. You can either wear it open for relaxed stylish look or do it right up when you get cold.

Working Girl Crochet Cardigan

It is a beautiful cardigan with an open front and simple shaping. Paired up with some skinny jeans over a white top it is a great cardigan to keep you warm in a fashionable way!

The cardigan is super easy to make and great as your first crochet garment.

This is such a versatile crochet cardigan pattern that any standard DK will do just fine. The yarn I used was acrylic for low maintenance garment. However, this pattern would work well with wool for extra warmth or cotton yarn for a lightweight spring/summer cardigan.

Crochet Bomber Style Jacket

It has a lovely oversized feel with 10 cm positive ease at chest. I have made it cropped length as a classic bomber style jacket would be. However, you can easily adjust the length in the size adjustments section of the pattern.

The sleeves are not tapered at all, they are worked straight in round and finished off with a cuff. It gives the sleeves slightly balloon look.

My favourite part about this crochet bomber jacket is the collar! That big oversized crochet collar that just wraps around your neck and gives you a big woolly hug!

Gap Year Cardigan

I just love the feel of this easy crochet cardigan! The cotton yarn gives this open front crochet cardigan that lovely smooth drape the way that not any other yarn can do. And that is big of me to say as I do not like cotton yarn.

I have designed this cardigan with cropped length. The front neckline hem is worked as part of each row so you donā€™t have to work it afterwards.

I added 3/4 sleeves so it is perfect for those warmer months or transition periods between warmer and colder seasons.

The open front ads to the relaxed feel so you can just ā€œthrow a cardi onā€ whatever you are wearing. The pattern can be easily adjusted, if you prefer more classic look to your cardigans.

I have included size adjustment instructions to change the length and width, find the Flattering Open Front Crochet Cardigan- free pattern on my blog.

Selene Lacy Crochet Cardigan

This Cardi is perfect when you need a nice light lacy crochet cardigan! It is light and airy not to make you too hot. On the other hand it will keep your shoulders nice and cozy when the weather cools down.

The beautiful crochet lace makes this cardigan pretty enough to wear out for dinner or drinks. However, the design is simple enough to wear during the day for a lunch date with friends.

The relaxed fit of this lacy crochet cardigan is perfect for the sunny weather. It has an open front with 3 small buttons holding it together at the top. However, you can leave them undone and have the cardigan completely open.

Secondly, the sleeves have relaxed fit too. They are not tapered, I have made them in a balloon style so they are not too tight and close to skin making you too hot. The bottom of the sleeve is brought in with a simple cuff using single crochet stitches.

Spring Coatigan

We all like to mix things up sometimes, donā€™t we? Hybrid cars, salted caramel, sweet and sour chickenā€¦ Well this is exactly what crochet coatigan is! It is a cardigan and coat hybrid.

This beautiful crochet jacket is thinner and lighter than winter coat. Yet it is much warmer than a spring crochet cardigan. It is most suitable for the transitional weather between seasons when it is too warm to wear a thick coat but way too cold to go without a top layer.

I love the fur collar which adds warmth to the finished garment. However, the flared skirt keeps it light an airy for spring.

The waistline is fitted and brought in to give this spring crochet coatigan a lovely shape that showcases your curves. I have also added pockets because every good coat has pockets, right?
