Easy Crochet Waffle Stitch Tutorial And Beautiful Waffle Crochet Patterns To Try

Step-by-step waffle crochet stitch tutorial with video and a collection of amazing free waffle crochet patterns to try. Choose from blankets, pillows, or modern garment patterns.

Waffle crochet stitch is such a great stitch to learn. It is an easy stitch combination of basic double crochet stitches.

You will alternate regular double crochets with double crochet worked around the post of the stitch.

However, the finished results produce a stunning and squishy crochet fabric with an amazing texture.

You can use this waffle crochet stitch in different ways for various projects.

Whether you are looking for a squishy crochet blanket, waffle stitch dishcloth, or a squishy sweater, you can certainly use this waffle stitch pattern.

Because the fabric combines stitches worked around the post of the next stitch, the finished crochet projects use fabric that almost feels like two layers have been crocheted into one.

This is especially useful quality if you want to crochet a super warm and cozy afghan pattern, waffle stitch crochet baby blanket, or a winter-style cardigan.

Crochet Waffle Stitch Step By Step Written Tutorial

The waffle stitch is a simple two-row repeat.

Just a note to say that the waffle stitch tends to shrink widthwise, so bear that in mind for your starting chains and for projects where the width really matters.

Your front post double crochet stitches will always line up when looking at the right side of your work.

1. To start, chain a multiple of 3+2 for your starting chain.

2. Work a double crochet into 3rd chain from hook and into each ch across to end of foundation chain. Turn your work.

3. Chain 2 to gain height and work 1 double crochet into the very first stitch. Then front post double crochet around the next st and double crochet into the next two stitches. Repeat the combination of (1 front post dc, 2 dc) across the row until you have 2 stitches left. Then work front post dc into the next st and standard dc into the last st. Turn your work.

Is waffle stitch a yarn eater?

The simple answer is yes.

Waffle crochet stitch does require quite a lot of yarn. This is due to the fact that it almost creates a three-dimensional fabric, very much like breakfast waffles.

Although the waffle crochet stitch pattern might not be the biggest yarn eater, it is certainly up there with c2c, granny, or shell stitches.

Is crochet waffle stitch reversible?

The finished fabric doesn’t look the same on both sides. The waffle-like pattern is only visible on the right side.

However, the wrong side of the fabric also creates an aesthetically pleasing pattern. So to a certain point, the fabric is reversible, although not with the same pattern.

That is one of the main reasons why this stitch is great for items like crochet throws and blankets as both sides are pretty.
