Beautiful Free Lacy Crochet Cardigan Pattern – Selene Cardigan

Free Lacy Crochet Cardigan Pattern for warmer summer months. Women’s Crochet Cardigan designed in sizes XS-5XL will be perfect crochet summer wardrobe staple.

The sun is shinning and it is nice and warm. The warm sun rays are kissing your skin gently while you are sipping on a nice ice cold drink.

However, sunny days can turn a little chilly pretty quickly here in UK. Secondly, warm countries do sometimes get chillier evenings.

This is when you need a nice light lacy crochet cardigan! It is light and airy not to make you too hot.

On the other hand it will keep your shoulders nice and cozy when the weather cools down.

The beautiful crochet lace makes this cardigan pretty enough to wear out for dinner or drinks. However, the design is simple enough to wear during the day for a much date with friends.

Selene Cardigan – Lacy Crochet Cardigan Perfect For Summer

The relaxed fit of this lacy crochet cardigan is perfect for the sunny weather. It has an open front with 3 small buttons holding it together at the top.

However, you can leave them undone and have the cardigan completely open.

Secondly, the sleeves have relaxed fit too. They are not tapered, I have made them in a balloon style so they are not too tight and close to skin making you too hot.

The bottom os the sleeve is brought in with a simple cuff using single crochet stitches.

We know the best fibres to use for summer makes are cotton, linen or bamboo yarn. In this case, I have used Lindy Chain yarn from WeCrochet Official.

It is a lovely linen yarn to work with. It is not plied or twisted, it is chainette yarn. This quality makes it superbly lightweight and very versatile for summer makes.

The linen adds a great stitch definition that shows off textures. It also adds a lovely drape and sheen that just gets softer with every wash.

This lacy crochet cardigan has been designed for a special event – The Designer’s Pick Summer Blog Hop.

The yarn for this project has been kindly gifted by WeCrochet Official who is the yarn sponsor for the Designer’s Pick Summer Blog Hop.

LACY CROCHET CARDIGAN PATTERN NOTES

  • The cardigan is worked from bottom up, working the front and back panels in one piece, later divided for armholes.
  • Sleeves are worked straight onto the main body and finished off with a cuff
  • The pattern starts with the first row that consists of foundation single crochet which goes all the way around the chest circumference
  • This large piece is later split into 2 front panels and back panel creating armholes in the process
  • The front opening is finished off with 4 rows of single crochet stitch creating loops for buttons on the last row
  • The sleeves are worked straight onto the main armhole opening
  • Sleeves are worked around the post of end double crochet stitches of the armhole opening
  • They are not tapered, they are worked straight down in rounds
  • The sleeves have slight balloon look as they are finished off with a cuff to pull them closed a little
  • The front panels are referred to as left and right throughout the pattern as if the cardigan was worn

SIZE ADJUSTMENTS FOR YOUR LACY CROCHET CARDIGAN

  • The foundation row determines the finished chest circumference (width) of the cardigan
  • To adjust the circumference add or take away 6 sts (or multiple of) from the number of fsc sts
  • To adjust the length, add or take away number of rows before splitting the piece to front and back panels
  • The sleeves are not tapered therefore the length is easily adjustable and you can try it on as you go
  • To create a buttoned cardigan, you can create button loops all the way down the right side
