DESIGN PROCESS

I have been so honoured to be a guest designer on Marie’s beautiful blog. Underground Crafter is a fantastic blog with lots of free crochet, knitting and sewing patterns. You really should check it out!

My Crochet Mountain Leg Warmers were published on Marie’s blog on 16th December. Which happened to be my birthday too, so it was a lovely present to have my work published on this popular craft blog!

When I was thinking of designs I could make the timming played a huge part. I wanted to design something that was season appropriate. As December is a pretty cold month, I needed something to keep warm. I don’t know about you but I have always suffered with cold feet (no pun intended…). So when it came to coming up with a design for my guest post, it really was a no brainer!

CROCHET MOUNTAIN LEG WARMERS PROJECT DETAILS

I consider this project to be beginner friendly. The pattern uses basic crochet stitches- single and double crochet. The interesting texture is simply created by working these stitches either through back loop only or around the post of the stitch.

The pattern starts with the bottom cuff that uses single crochet stitch. In order to achieve the ribbed look, the stitch is worked through back loop only. The main body uses alternating front and back post double crochet. This combination of stitches is also known as rice stitch.

I have filmed a quick video tutorial for you. It explains how to work rice stitch in round.

I used Paintbox Yarns Simply Chunky that has been kindly gifted by Lovecrafts. These crochet Mountain Leg Warmers use only 3 balls of this superb yarn so the project won’t break the bank. These leg warmers worked up super fast too, thanks to chunky yarn and 6 mm crochet hook.

Alternatively, you can purchase the ad free, printer friendly version in my Ravelry, Etsy or Lovecrafts stores.

  1. Thank you for this pattern. My legs get cold when I’m working at the computer or in my favourite chair working with yarn. This could very easily solve that problem. They are very pretty and shouldn’t take long to create using the bulky yarn and 6 mm hook. All I need now is the yarn and some ‘me time’. Thank you for sharing this useful project pattern!

    1. They are really great at keeping you warm. I am glad you like them, they do not take long to work up at all! Enjoy ?
