This is a free crochet party hat pattern you can use to make this fun accessory for special occasions. Make one for the New Years party or all year round for a birthday party!
Who does not love a good party with friends filled with laughter and good time?
Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or partying “just because”, every good party should have a crochet party hat!
I love how easy and quick this crochet party hat pattern works up!
It is a great way to add a little fun to your party outfit! You can completely customise the size and the colors of the hat.

Crochet Party Hat Design
This super cute and fun party hat has a cone shape. You start working at the top of the hat and work your way down.
The little bobbles are worked as part of the round. However, you do not have to carry yarn through every stitch.
You simply join contrast yarn in when you need to make a bobble stitch, then return to main color.
I find this is easier and ends with neater results as you won’t have contrast yarn showing through your stitches.
The other great thing about joining in yarn as and when you need to make a bobble is that you can choose lots of bright and fun colors for the bobbles. You do not have to stick to the same color yarn throughout.
The hat is then finished off with two rounds of ruffles. I opted to incorporate both colors to the ruffles as I think that really finishes the hat off.
And of course, it would not be a party hat without a mini pom-pom on the top.
For this pom-pom I actually used a fork to make a mini version.

Crochet Party Hat Pattern Notes
- the hat starts with working into magic circle
- 1 ch at the beginning of round does not count as a stitch throughout the pattern
- 1 ch to secure the loops of the bobble stitch doesn’t count as a stitch throughout
- you will start at the top of the hat working in closed off rounds towards the bottom
- each round increases by two stitches at two points
- this creates a cone shape needed for the crochet party hat
- the bobble stitches are worked as you go, randomly spaced around the hat
- join contrast yarn for the bobble stitch on the last pull through of the last sc blo
- to change color back to main color, work the last 1 ch of the bobble stitch in main color
- cut the contrast color yarn and using the two tail ends simply make a knot to secure
- the knots will not be visible as they will be on the inside of the crochet party hat
- you can make the hat smaller by working less rounds
- you can also increase the size by continuing working more rounds in the same way
- the bottom of the hat is finished off with two rounds of ruffles worked into the stitches of the last sc blo round
- one round is worked through the back loop only, the second round is worked through front loop only of the last round
- I have added a simple string to secure the hat on my head
- you can also add a ribbon
- or glue it to a plastic headband
- to make the hat more sturdy you can also add a bit of stuffing
- alternatively make a cardboard cone that fits inside and secure with glue
