Super easy and super fast make- my Chunky Twisted Crochet Cowl- is another free crochet pattern on the blog. Check out the easy technique on how to get that twist in your cowl creating a gorgeous crochet neck accessory.
I really fancied the satisfaction you get from starting and finsihing a project in one day, so that’s why I created this chunky twisted crochet cowl.
This is a superb accessory for when the weather turns cold and you need something soft and snuggly to keep you warm.
The chunky cowl has also a very modern and fashionable twist at the front which sets it apart and will make you stand out from the crowd.
For this pattern, I used DK weight (category 3 weight) yarn. However, to add to the speed this cowl works up in, I held 4 strands together.
I also used 12 mm crochet hook which made this process a breeze. Hence why the cowl worked up super fast.
Pair it up with an easy crochet stitch and you have yourself a formula for some crochet magic.
This cowl would make a great accessory for yourself. However, you could make it as a gift for friends and family.
Due to the cowl being super fast to make, it would also be a great item to crochet for your handmade market stall.

Chunky Twisted Crochet Layover Cowl Yarn
For this chunky twisted crochet cowl I used Scheepjes Eliza yarn as it is super soft and great to work with.
It consists of 100% polyester and when 4 strands are held together it really reminded me of working with chenille yarn. I love the drape and softness of this yarn because it is great for a neck accessory.
You really wouldn’t want to use scratchy yarn and wrap it around your neck.
If you wanted to substitute for a different yarn I’d recommend Bernat yarns as they have a few different alternatives with similar fibre content to choose from.
But the best match I could find in terms of fibre content was Lion Brand Feels Like Butta.
Chunky Twisted Crochet Cowl Stash Buster
It is also a great stash-busting crochet project as you will need @ 200 m of 4 different balls of DK yarn so the colour possibilities are endless.
You can use up your stash even further and use different weight yarns together to make up 32-ply weight (which is 4 x 8-ply).
So you could use 3 balls of 4-ply and 2 balls of aran weight or 1 ball of DK and 2 balls of chunky weight yarn as an example. Check out the table below for yarn weights.
Alternatively you could adjust the size of the cowl to fit the weight of your yarn and hook with my size adjustment instructions.

These are then crossed over and worked together again into one continuous row.
I made a video tutorial for this part which you can see below.

SIZE ADJUSTMENTS
The foundation chain determines the height of the cowl. To adjust the height, add/take away any number of stitches.
The number of rows determines the finished circumference of the cowl. To adjust the circumference, add/take away number of rows to either side of the cross over part.
