This is a free knit-look crochet cowl pattern that is beginner friendly and easy to make. Use this pattern to make a crochet cowl that look knitted using a simple stitch.
It has always been a thing – make knit-look items but with a crochet hook instead.
If you are not a knitter and have a headache trying to look after all those stitches on your needles, let me introduce you to Etela Cowl – knit-look crochet cowl.
It is a super easy and fun crochet cowl pattern that has a beautiful knit-look texture. However, it has been created with a humble crochet hook.
I love the overall size of the cowl, I made it double height so it nicely gathers up and sits on my neck.
Secondly, the addition of mohair strand makes this the softest cowl I have ever worn!
I created this knit-look crochet cowl from a yarn that was originally meant to be destashed. I have sorted out a few skeins to give away.
To my surprise, two skeins of sock yarn and a skein of mohair accidentally landed next to each other. And an idea was born!
I immediately wanted to get this cool yarn combo onto my hook and start working away.

I am totally in love with the amazing look of this crochet cowl. I have achieved the knit-look texture by using a fun stitch – waistcoat half double crochet.
I have written a tutorial and filmed a video tutorial so you can learn this cool stitch.
I find it much easier to work than split single crochet. It also produces fabric that is full of drape and movement.
The technique of working the waistcoat hdc is very much the same as when you use single crochet. You work through the front V of the stitch rather than the top loops.
