Lace Crochet Beach Cover Up – Nova Cover Up Pattern Details
I have loved every minute of working on this super stylish lace crochet beach cover up!
The stitch combination despite its looks is easy to memorise as the pattern will naturally guide your hooks and stitches!
The large openwork creates a striking motifs that look like they took hours to make, when in fact it works up so quickly.
I also love the versatility of this beach cover up. By adding a couple of simple ties on either end, you transform a simple piece of fabric into something super versatile and so easy to wear.
You can wrap the cover up around your waist and wear it as a floor-length skirt. Fancy something different?
Tie the cover up around your chest and wear it as a mid length dress that sits just above your knee.
If you are looking for a full cover beach cover up, tie the fabric around your shoulders for a poncho-style cover up that sits just below hips.

1 pattern repeat x 5 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inch after blocking
Chain 36 for a gauge swatch.
Follow the main written pattern below over 36 sts for at least 12-15 rows to make a gauge swatch big enough to measure.
Then measure out a 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inch area in the middle of your swatch. Count how many stitches and rows fit into this area.
If you have less than 1 pattern repeat and 5 rows, you need to use a smaller hook.
If you have more than 1 pattern repeat and 5 rows, you need to use a larger hook.
Pattern Notes
- the cover up can be worn in three ways – around your waist as a long skirt, around your chest as a mini dress and around your shoulders as a poncho style cover up
- the beach cover up is worked top down
- you will first create a basic row of double crochet stitches
- this band will create the waist or chest band as the cover up can be worn around your waist, chest or across your shoulders
- after the first row is created, you will then continue with the lace pattern working up length
- the beach cover is a full length skirt, below the knee when worn as a dress or mini skirt length when worn around your shoulders
- once you work up the length, we will create the fastening on the basic row which will serve as a fastening around your waist, chest or shoulders
- the edges of the beach cover are finished off with a strip of alternating double and treble crochet stitches that are worked as part of the row so there is no need to crochet around the finished piece
- to adjust the width of the cover up, chain multiples of 15 + 7
- to adjust the length, repeat the stitch pattern as many times as you wish
- the cover up benefits from firm blocking to open up the lace
- Note: The pattern is written out for 9 sizes as follows XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL)
- The stitches in italic separated by [] are stitch counts, those stitches are not to be worked again.
