• Bella Coco Merino (100% wool, 165m /180yds per 50g /1.75 oz ball; sports weight) 1 ball each in colors Ivory, Pink Lemonade, Light Moss, Lavender, Buttermilk, Duck Egg, Peach, French Rose
• 4 mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Stitch markers

Baby Crochet Blanket Yarn Substitutes

You can find alternative yarns below. I have picked out a few yarns that would work beuatifully with the pattern.

Hobbii Friends Extra Fine Merino – is a great fiber to keep you warm, helps with regulating your body temperature during wintertime, and is completely itch-free. This means, of course, that it can be also worn by people with sensitive skin, including children.

Stitches And Abbreviations (US Crochet Terms)

The pattern uses US Crochet Terminology

yrh – yarn over hook

sl st – slip stitch

ch – chain stitch

ch-sp – chain space, specifically 1 ch-sp, 2 ch-sp etc.

prev – previous

rep – repeat

beg – beginning

st(s) – stitch(es)

hdc – half double crochet

hdc blo – half double crochet worked through back loop only

dc – double crochet

linked dc – linked double crochet

cluster – 4 double crochet worked into same space

V st – (1 dc, 3 ch, 1 dc) worked in same stitch

Baby Crochet Blanket Finished Size

• the blanket measures 85 x 85 cm / 33.5 x 33.5 inches
• to adjust the width, change the foundation chain in multiples of 4 + 2
• to adjust the length, work more/less rows

Tension/Gauge

5.5 clusters x 10 rows in established pattern = 10 x 10 cm /4 x 4 inches

Pattern Notes

• the blanket is worked in rows across the shorter side
• the multiple for this stitch pattern is 4 + 2
• to adjust the width, chain multiples of 4 until you are happy with the width, then chain 2 more stitches
• the pattern repeats over 4 rows
• the key to the “random” look of the blanket is using 7 colors and changing color every row
• the blanket is finished off with a simple version of an envelope border to hide all the ends inside
• it includes a video tutorial to guide you through the border pattern

MAIN PATTERN

Baby Crochet Blanket Chart

SIMPLE BORDER

Row 1: continue working down the long edge of the blanket, working around the post of last dc st of each row, work 3 sc into each row end, 2 ch to turn the corner, continue working into underside of the foundation chain, 2 sc in first 1 ch-sp, * 1 sc in next ch, 4 sc in next 3 ch-sp; rep from * across, 1 sc in next ch, 2 sc in last 1 ch-sp, 2 ch to turn the corner, continue working across the opposite side around the post of last dc of each row work 3 sc into each row end, 2 ch to turn the corner, 1 sc in each st and 1 ch-sp across the top edge, 2 ch, sl st to 1st sc.

Fasten off.

Row 2: change yarn color, 1 sc in each st around, working (1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc) into each corner 2 ch-sp.

Fasten off.

Repeat Row 2 another 5 times changing colours each row.

ENVELOPE BORDER

To prepare the tail ends for the envelope border, tie 2 ends close to each other together with a double knot, then tie overhand knot about 0.5 cm above and cut the remaining tail end off.

Join yarn around the post of end dc with right side of blanket facing.

You will be working around the post of end dc stitches of each row.

Row 1: 1 stand dc, 1 linked dc around same end dc, 2 linked dc around each end dc of every row, turn.

Row 2: 2 ch (doesn’t count as a st), 1 hdc in each st across, turn.

Row 3: 2 ch (doesn’t count as a st), 1 hdc blo in each st across, turn.

Row 4: 2 ch (doesn’t count as a st), 1 hdc in each st across, turn.

Fold the border in half across the hdc blo row.
