This is a free crochet Christmas stocking pattern that uses the rice stitch in a round. It is full of texture and with the faux fur trim, it will be the perfect festive addition to your home decor.
Christmas is inevitably around the corner and I am getting into the festive mood with some holiday-inspired projects.
I have been busy making a few projects and I am yet to write down the patterns. I had a little heap of Christmas-themed projects and it was hard to decide which one to share first.
This crochet Christmas stocking is the largest out of them all. Hence why I thought it would be good to share it first. That way you will have plenty of time to make one or two just in time for Christmas.
Crochet Christmas Stocking Details
I must say the faux fur trim is by far my favorite part of the whole crochet stocking, lol!
I used a standard DK weight yarn in red and white for the main stocking. The contrast color I used for the toes and heel finish it off nicely.
Here are some DK-weight yarns that would work really well for this pattern:
As I mentioned above, for the cuff I use faux fur yarn – Fable Fur. It can be a little tricky to work with this yarn. You can not always see the top of the stitches.
However, in this case, you can easily work through the gaps between the dc sts. The fur of the yarn will easily hide this.
The pattern is very easy, the only little fiddly bit might be the heel. However, if you have crocheted a pair of socks before, you might be familiar with this technique.
The technique I used is the After-thought heel which is demonstrated IN THIS VIDEO.
Once you get the hang of this technique, it is an easy way to add a heel to your crochet Christmas stocking.
The main body of the socks uses crochet rice stitch in the round. This is a stitch that creates a great texture without eating too much of your yarn.

Crochet Christmas Stocking Pattern Notes
- the stocking is made from toe up
- toe is worked as a standard crochet circle in white using single crochet stitches
- the foot part is worked in rice crochet stitch which is alternating front and back post stitches with working opposite stitches on the next round
- a gap is created to allow for the heel opening
- the heel is worked in rows of single crochet around the opening
- you will need to decrease on either side of the opening to shape the heel
- the ankle part is worked in rice stitch too
- the top of the stocking is finished off with a hem of faux fur
- hem is worked in double crochet stitch
- because you are not able to see the top of each stitch, you can also work in the gaps between stitches through the fabric
