Beautiful granny square cushion cover using the interlocking crochet technique. Make one granny square and turn it into a full pillowcase!
There’s something endlessly satisfying about taking a simple crochet square and transforming it into a beautiful piece of home décor.
And that feeling is exactly what inspired today’s pattern: the Interlocking Crochet Cushion Cover.
This design combines bold, contrasting colors with an eye-catching geometric texture created through a rhythmic, interlocking stitch pattern.
The result is a cushion cover that looks intricate and impressive, yet is surprisingly straightforward to make.
Whether you’re looking to refresh your living space, add a handmade touch to a favorite chair, or dive into a project that offers both relaxation and visual impact, this pattern is a wonderful choice.
What I love most about this cushion cover is how versatile it is.
You can play with color combinations to match your décor or go completely bold for a statement piece.
The square itself grows quickly, making it a great project for confident beginners ready to explore new techniques or experienced crocheters who enjoy designs that are meditative yet visually striking.
In this post, I’ll be sharing the inspiration behind the pattern, what you’ll need to get started, and how the construction works—so you can create a stunning interlocking cushion cover of your own, all from one beautifully crafted square.

Pattern Notes
- the cushion cover is worked from the centre outwards
- you will work in joined rounds
- the round starts with a standing double crochet, this can be replaced with a beginning 3 chain if easier
- you will alternate between rounds of plain double crochet stitch and the interlocking crochet pattern where two rounds are worked interlocking the two stitches together
- you will increase each round in four corners
- you can either make two separate squares that are 40 x 40 cm/16 x 16 inches and sew them together to create a cushion cover
- alternatively you can also make one larger square that can be folded and the four corner sewn together to create a cushion cover
- this could also make a great baby blanket if you make it slightly larger
