A compilation of 26 amazing crochet granny square patterns you can make. These will be perfect to make into a lovely blanket, cushion cover, granny crochet cardigans, or anything you fancy.
With Granny Square Day just around the corner, I thought it would be a great idea to round up crochet granny square patterns.
These are stunning square projects from some of the best designers and bloggers around.
Crochet granny squares are such humble makes. It is usually one of the first square projects every beginner crocheter starts with.
There are so many square variations that you will be entertained forever even if you are an experienced crocheter.
You can use a mix of different square designs for granny square blankets. You will learn some new stitches and it is an easy way to have a portable project on the go.
A mix of solid granny square with more fancy squares like sunburst granny square would make a beautiful blanket.
Classic Granny Square Designs
The classic three double crochet cluster (dc cluster) worked into a ch-2 space is a look that every crocheter identifies without any hesitation.
The classic granny square often starts with a magic ring or magic circle. Double crochet stitches arranged in different ways with a mix of chain stitches, single crochet, and slip stitch (sl st) make for an easy granny square pattern.
People very often opt for worsted weight yarn with the appropriate crochet hook size, please refer to the yarn label for the recommended hook size.
However, any type of yarn will be great for granny squares. If you have made the classic granny square before, you might have noticed that after a few rounds, your square will start to tilt.
Everyone has their preferred method of working the traditional granny square shape, but if you want to avoid the slant, you need to turn your work before the next round.
This is the perfect way to stop your rounds from twisting. The only difference is, that your square will not have a definite right and wrong side.
However, once you master the basic crochet granny square pattern, you might want to move on to something a little more advanced.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to using different stitch combinations and techniques.

The square uses textured crochet stitches like popcorn and front post crochet stitches to create the star shape.
This is then surrounded by lacy crochet stitches to make the star shape stand out.

Circle of Friends Square
I have come up with more of a lacy granny square. It starts off as a circle to represent the circle of friends and family around you.
These are the people celebrated in this crochet along. The circle is then turned into a 9-inch square that complements the blanket beautifully.
I used basic crochet stitches grouped in an innovative way to create this stunning lacy crochet granny square.
As you can see it uses crochet puff stitch for some gorgeous texture. The other stitches used in this pattern are double crochet and even treble crochet.

Crochet 3D Flower Granny Square
I have designed a crochet flower granny square, especially for this day!
It consists of a sweet flower motif in the middle. The subsequent rounds are then worked to the back of the flower making it pop out and 3D.
Lastly, it has a couple of rounds of lacy crochet stitches to finish it off.

Vintage Star Join As You Go Squares
These delicate lacy crochet squares use the join-as-you-go technique so you donāt have to make a pile of squaresā¦
