The mini crochet Christmas stocking pattern uses the interlocking crochet technique to create a visually striking mini stocking. Decorate your tree with it or create a garland – the choice is yours!

There’s something quietly magical about small handmade touches at Christmastime — and few decorations feel as cozy and personal as a tiny stocking hung with care.

The Mini Crochet Christmas Stocking offers just that: adorable, petite stockings worked using the elegant Interlocking Crochet method.

Interlocking crochet builds two interwoven mesh layers — one in each colour — that lock together as you work, creating crisp, double-sided colourwork with neat edges and no bulky colour changes.

These mini stockings are wonderfully versatile. Depending on the yarn and hook size you choose, each can measure around 7–8 inches tall.

They make charming decorations: hang them on the Christmas tree, use them as festive gift-card holders, or string several together for a handmade garland across a mantel or staircase.

Even if you’re fairly new to interlocking crochet, the pattern gives clear, step-by-step instructions and even a video tutorial to guide you.

It’s a perfect project for those who want a bit of craft magic in their holiday decor — small, handmade, and full of festive charm

Mini Crochet Christmas Stocking Pattern Details

The Mini Crochet Christmas Stocking pattern is a delightful DK-weight project designed for festive decorating and quick handmade gifts.

Worked bottom-up in one seamless piece, the stocking uses the interlocking crochet technique to create clean, double-sided colourwork without bulky transitions, all while following US crochet terminology.

The pattern calls for around 100–105 yards of DK yarn, such as Stylecraft Special DK or Yarnsmiths Lagoon DK, paired with a 4.5 mm hook, and achieves a gauge of 9 stitches and 10 rows over 5 cm.

The finished stocking measures roughly 7–8 inches tall, making it perfect for hanging on the tree, tucking in small gifts, or stringing into a festive garland.

The pattern includes clear written instructions along with helpful step-by-step photos, making it accessible for adventurous beginners and enjoyable for experienced crocheters alike.

Materials

Yarn Substitutes

  • Emu Classic DK – Softness is always the defining characteristic of all Emu Classic ranges by customers when they pick up a ball. However, even though it is exceptionally soft, Emu Classic DK is also hugely versatile – fully machine washable at 40 degrees, it can be ironed at a low temperature, and it can even go in the tumble drier.
  • Paintbox Yarns Simply DK – Paintbox Yarns Simply DK is the ultimate in good value, great quality acrylic. Pick your palette from the enormous range of brights, pastels and muted tones on offer.
  • Kind Feather – As the name suggests our Kind Feather is soft as a feather against your skin. If you like super soft yarns you will most definitely fall in love with this yarn. It is a 100% premium acrylic yarn which means that the fibers have undergone several production steps, similar to those to manufacture wool.
  • Mary Maxim Prism Yarn – Available in more than 10 unique, rippling color schemes, Mary Maximprism yarn offers you the best of both worlds in feel and appearance.
  • Premier Yarns Colorfusion DK – This DK weight 100% acrylic is perfect for soft, easy-care crochet projects.
  • Hobbii Manarola – is a soft yarn with beautiful and clear colors. The fine, silk-sheen acrylic is loosely spun, but wonderfully easy to work with.
  • Hobbii Carnival – is carefully created and the clear and gradual color shift is integrated into your project most wonderfully. In addition, the strong colors change automatically, so you’ll get nice stripes without having to join loads of ends.
