This is a free chunky crochet shawl pattern – Zoya Shawl. It is a large shawl that will keep you super warm in a stylish way. With its beginner-friendly stitches and construction, it will work up super quick.

Chunky Crochet Shawl Pattern Details
Zoya Shawl is a beginner friendly crochet chunky shawl pattern. I used simple crochet stitches like single crochet and half double crochet throughout the body.
This makes is a mindless crochet pattern you can work on while binge watching tv.
The pattern uses a main color and a contrast color. You can play around with different color combinations using subtle complimentary colors.
Or you can go all out and use a super contrasting colors for the stripes and lace border.
The shawl uses a chunky yarn – Fluffy Day XL from Hobbii yarn. It is a great yarn to work with that creates a super warm crocheted fabric.
The yarn comes in various colors so you can choose your own custom combination.

Materials
- Hobbii Fluffy Day XL (chunky/bulky weight; 100% acrylic; 140 m per 100g ball) x 4 balls in Grey (03) and 2 balls in Blue (10)
- 8 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors

Stitches And Abbreviations (US Crochet Terms)
ch – chain stitch
ch-sp – chain space
sc – single crochet
sc in blo – single crochet stitch through back loop only
hdc – half double crochet
hdc tlo – half double crochet stitch worked through the third loop only
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
picot – chain 3, sl st into first ch to join into loop
PM – place marker into the stitch just made
Chunky Crochet Shawl Main Pattern
With Grey and 8 mm hook chain 26.
Row 1 (RS): starting in 2nd ch from hook, 12 sc, (1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc) in next, 12 sc to end, turn. [26 sc]
Row 2 (WS): 1 ch (doesn’t count as a st here and throughout), 2 sc in first st, 1 sc into each st across to next 2 ch-sp, (1 sc, 2 ch, 1 sc) in next 2 ch-sp, 1 sc in each st across to last st, 2 sc into last st, turn. [30 sc]
Repeat Row 2 another 10 times. [70 sc]
** Fasten off, change to Blue.
Row 13: 2 ch (counts as first hdc), 1 hdc in same st at the bottom of 2 ch, 1 hdc into each st across to next 2 ch-sp, (1 hdc, 2 ch, 1 hdc) in next 2 ch-sp, 1 hdc in each st across to last st, 2 hdc into last st, turn. [74 hdc]
Row 14: 2 ch, 1 hdc tlo in same st at the bottom of 2 ch, 1 hdc tlo into each st across to next 2 ch-sp, (1 hdc, 2 ch, 1 hdc) in next 2 ch-sp, 1 hdc tlo in each st across to last st, 2 hdc tlo into last st, turn. [78 hdc]
Fasten off. Change to Grey.
Repeat Row 2 twelve times.**
Repeat pattern from ** to ** two more times. [238 sc]
Fasten off.
Chunky Crochet Shawl Border
Change to Blue.
Row 1: 5 ch (counts as first dc + 2 ch-sp), 1 dc in same st at the bottom of starting chain = first V st created, (miss 2 sts, 1 V st in next) repeat across until 1 st before next 2 ch-sp, miss 1 st, (1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc, PM, 2 ch, 1 dc) in next 2 ch-sp, miss next st, (1 V st in next, miss 2 sts) repeat until last st, 1 V st in last, turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc in same st, 3 ch, 1 dc into first 2 ch-sp, *3 ch, 1 sc into next 2 ch-sp, 3 ch, 1 dc into next 2 ch-sp; repeat from * across to marked st, 3 ch, 1 sc into marked st, *3 ch, 1 dc into next 2 ch-sp, 3 ch**, 1 sc into next 2 ch-sp; repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, 1 sc into 3rd ch of the beginning 5 ch, turn.
Row 3: 4 ch (counts as first tr), miss next 3 ch-sp, *work (3 dc, picot, 3 dc) into top of next dc st**, miss next (3 ch-sp, 1 sc, 3 ch-sp); repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, miss next 3 ch-sp, work (1 dc, 2 tr, picot, 2 tr, 1 dc) into next sc, miss next 3 ch-sp, *work (3 dc, picot, 3 dc) into top of next dc st**, miss next (3 ch-sp, 1 sc, 3 ch-sp); repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, miss last 3 ch-sp, 1 tr into last sc.
Fasten off. Lightly spray with mist to dampen the shawl and block to dimensions and to open up the lace pattern of the border.
