This is a free pattern for a super comfortable and warm slouchy crochet beanie. Keep warm in the winter months with this super stylish and easy to wear beanie for women.
Podaca Slouchy Crochet Beanie is a great pattern to work on to create a warm and stylish beanie. The combination of stitches makes it a modern crochet accessory.
I have used a really fun purl single crochet stitch. This stitch gives the fabric an interesting look with a subtle texture.
The beanie also uses round of mock ribbing using half double crochet. You simply alternate front post and back post stitches to create it.
It uses a standard DK weight yarn so you can definitely go stash diving for this pattern.
This beanie also comes with a powerful message as I have designed it for the Crochet Cancer Challenge.
This is a yearly event run by Christine from Sweet Potato 3. It is a great event to get involved in.
This is a community event where crochet designers come together and share new crochet hat designs. It is lovely to see our amazing crochet community come together to make a difference by participating in the Crochet Cancer Challenge.
It is a charity event that lasts throughout October ā the cancer awareness month. Almost every day, you will be able to download a free crochet hat pattern.
Each hat pattern has been designed in honor of someone we know. Someone who has battled cancer or to help bring awareness to a specific type of cancer.
By downloading the pattern for free you are taking a pledge to make a minimum of one hat from that pattern to donate. You can give the donation to someone you know who is battling cancer, or to a cancer center.

Podaca Slouchy Crochet Beanie
Last year I designed Free Textured Crochet Beanie For Women ā Marta Hat Pattern which is dedicated to my dear auntie Marta.
This year I named my beanie Podaca Beanie. PodaƧa is a beautiful small village in Croatia.
My mum and I went on holiday to this beautiful place with my auntie Marta and uncle back in 2002 and 2004.
I have some beautiful memories from this lovely village, such a lovely and care free time.
And that is exactly what I wish for my dear auntie, care free and relaxing time.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see my auntie this year. However, I spoke to my auntie on the phone when we visited Slovakia in summer holidays and she sounded well.
Although she is still undergoing cancer treatment, she is doing well. That makes me incredibly happy.
In the spirit of bringing awareness to ovarian cancer, here are symptoms of ovarian cancer from NHS website HERE.

Slouchy Crochet Beanie Pattern Notes
- the hat is worked bottom up
- the pattern starts with the ribbed brim
- ribbed brim is worked in short rows of sc blo st rows until you reach your desired circumference
- the brim is then joined into a continuous round by crocheting the last row and underside of foundation chain together
- the brim is then folded over to create a double brim
- the main body of the hat is then worked around the long edge of the hat brim
- you will be working around the end stitch of each end of each row of the hat brim and pick up stitches in each row
- so the number of rows of the hat brim will equal number of stitches of the hat main body
- to adjust the size of the hat, you will need to adjust the length of the hat brim when working the short sc blo rows
- then simply join the hat brim into round and continue working along the long edge of the brim
- you can refer to the handy hat sizes chart below when adjusting the size
- so for each 1 cm of the hat circumference you should have 1.8 sts or 4.5 sts per 1 inch
- as an example: for 3-6 months size hat, I will need 15 inch hat circumference; 15 x 4.5 = 67.5 sts; therefore you will need to work 68 rows of the hat brim and continue with the pattern
- please note that the decreases on the crown will need to be evenly distributed throughout the round, however, they will not correspond with the size written out below.
Slouchy Crochet Beanie Main Pattern
With yarn A, chain 21.
Row 1: starting in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch across, turn. [20 sc]
Row 2: 1 ch (doesn’t count as a st here and troughout), 1 sc, 18 sc blo, 1 sc in last, turn. [20 sc]
Repeat Row 2 another 88 times until you have 90 rows of the hat brim in total.
Fold the brim in half and line up the stitches of the last rows with the stitches of the underside of the foundation chain.
Using yarn needle or a hook, sew or crochet the two rows together to join the long strip into a brim of the hat.
Turn right side out. Now fold the hat brim lengthways to create a double brim.
You will now be working around the long edge of the brim of the hat to create the body.
You will be working around the end sc st of each end of the row of the brim of both ends of each row attaching the brim.
