Free women’s crochet sweater pattern designed in sizes XS-5XL that is perfect for warmer spring/summer season.

Introducing Hawberry Sweater- must have women’s crochet sweater
Hawberry Sweater is a beautifully soft women’s crochet sweater with amazing drape. The fingering weight yarn brings so much to this design.
Not only with the fibre and drape but also with the colours. I love this speckled yarn with yellows and greys.
I wanted to let this beautiful yarn do all the talking. That’s why I have used a simple half double crochet stitch for the main body of the sweater.
I worked the stitch through back loop only for added subtle texture. However, the top of front and back panel is where all the magic happens.
I used a lacy open shell stitch to add a different dimension to this women’s crochet sweater. Not surprisingly, doing this has added a very feminine touch to this crochet garment.
The sleeves are 3/4 length to further accent the spring/summer feeling this sweater brings. Although the pattern is very easy to adjust to make full length sleeves.

Yarn I used for this women’s crochet sweater
The yarn for my Hawberry Women’s Crochet Sweater has been kindly sponsored by the lovely team at WeCrochet Official.
The Knitpicks Hawthorne Speckle Hand Painted yarn caught my eye. One can say it was a love at first sight.
I think the choice of yarn made a lovely timeless crochet sweater that will become a staple in your wardrobe. You can easily pair it with many outfits from casual to more “dressed up” style.
The yarn is very easy to work with, doesn’t split at all and withstands a gentle wash in the washing machine.
Some people are apprehensive of making a crochet jumper in fingering weight yarn as it might take a long time.
I felt this sweater took just as much time as any other sweater I made. But what you have at the end of the process is this stunning crochet sweater.
The crochet sweater pattern is size inclusive design in sizes XS-5XL.
Video Tutorials for crocheting women’s sweaters
I have made a couple of video tutorials to help you with some crucial techniques you need to master for amazing looking crochet garments.
You work the body of the sweater in round, hence why the starting position of the first stitch moves over with each round.
This can leave a visible diagonal line right across the body of your sweater. However, you can counteract this and have a straight line of starting stitches in round.
These act as a seam you can place onto the side of your sweater. Have a look at my video tutorial.
The other technique I recommend mastering is working the invisible decrease. Most crocheters use this technique in amigurumi toy making as not to make visible decreases and holes in your work.
However, this technique is easily applicable in crochet garment making too. I have used this trick in my crochet sweater.
But the traditional invisible decrease is worked through front loops, I have decreased through back loop only to keep the pattern uniform.
My Hawberry Sweater is part of an amazing crochet pattern bundle too! It contains 34 amazing crochet patterns.

WOMEN’S CROCHET SWEATER PATTERN NOTES
- The jumper is worked bottom up
- The pattern starts with the bottom hem which is worked in sc blo stitch, the hem is then joined together by sewing the last and first row together to create a circle
- Pattern continues with working around the long edge of the bottom hem picking up stitches by working around the end row sts of the hem
- Continue working in rounds of hdc blo stitch all the way up to underarms
- Armholes are created by splitting the last round of main body into 2 equal parts that create back and front panels
- These are worked separately in rows of open shells pattern creating armholes on either side of main body
- The shoulders are then sewn together to create boat neckline and armholes
- Sleeves are worked around the armhole opening straight onto the main body, they are 3/4 length
- They are worked in rounds of hdc blo decreasing to make them slightly tapered
- The sleeves are finished off by working a cuff in sc blo at 90 degree angle onto the main sleeve
- Neckline is finished off by working 3 rounds of sc around the neck opening
SIZE ADJUSTMENTS
- The number of rows of the bottom hem determines the overall chest circumference
- You can adjust this by adding or taking away rows of sc blo when working on the hem. Make sure you have multiples of 10 + 2 rows of the bottom hem in total for the patterns repeats to work
- Based on the tension adjusting by 10 rows will add/take away around 5 cm from the chest circumference as a rough guide
- Length of the jumper is adjusted easily by adding or taking away rounds of hdc blo before splitting for front and back panels
- Armholes are adjusted by working more/less rows of the open shell pattern worked in rows. Make sure you add/take away same number of rows to both the front and back panel. Changing number of these rows will adjust the armhole by 1.5cm per 1 open shell repeat
- The sleeves are designed with 3/4 length but you can carry on with the sleeve pattern to make full length sleeves.

WOMEN’S CROCHET SWEATER MAIN PATTERN
BOTTOM HEM
Chain 16.
Row 1: start working into second ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to end, turn. 15 sc
Row 2: 1 ch (doesn’t count as a st here and throughout the pattern), 1 sc, 13 sc blo, 1 dc in last, turn. 15 sc
Repeat Row 2 until you have 192 (202, 222, 242, 272, 292, 312, 332, 352) rows in total.
Fold the hem in half and sew or crochet the two end rows together to form a round. Turn right side out and continue working on the right side around the long edge of the hem in rounds without turning.
MAIN BODY
You will continue working around the long edge of the hem. Work hdc sts around the end sc st of each row of the hem.
Rnd 1: 2 ch (doesnāt count as a st), starting in the stitch at the bottom of beg 2 ch, 1 hdc around each end st of hem rows, sl st to first st to join into a round. 192 (202, 222, 242, 272, 292, 312, 332, 352) sts
Rnd 2: 2 ch, 1 hdc blo in each st around, sl st to first st. 192 (202, 222, 242, 272, 292, 312, 332, 352) sts
Repeat Rnd 2 until you have 47 (46, 45, 44, 43, 42, 40, 40, 38) rounds in total. Do not fasten off.
Note: as you carry on working in rounds the starting position of the first hdc stitch will naturally move. This causes a diagonal line to appear across the jumper. You can counteract this by changing the starting position of the first stitch on every other round. If you want to keep this line straight at the side seam and make it less visible, please watch the video tutorial above on how to achieve this.
