Stylish Crochet Wedge Project Bag- Free Pattern

This stylish crochet project bag is slightly unusual but very easy to make! Change the basic pouch shape to a wedge by sewing the end in opposite direction. The addition of a simple handle finishes off this modern project bag perfectly!

This crochet project bag was one of those slightly strange projects that I kept doubting throughout. As I was working on it, adding stitch to a stitch, row to row I kept thinking it was a silly idea. Luckily, after I finished it I was more than pleased with it and was glad I carried on.

At one stage I was even thinking of keeping the traditional flat zipper pouch shape. Until I stopped worrying about imposter syndrome and decided to listen to my gut and go with the original idea.

There are many zipper pouch patterns out there and they are all gorgeous in their simplicity. I wanted to create this wedge crochet project bag with its slightly unusual shape and construction. I kept the colours neutral to create a stylish and modern crochet project bag you would proudly display.

Crochet Project Bag Construction

This wedge crochet pouch starts off as a traditional zipper pouch. I started with a foundation chain and worked around both sides. Joined together at the end of the first round, you carry on working in spiral without connection each round.

Where you create the unusual shape is right at the end. The zip is sewn into the opening at the end in opposite direction to the foundation round. By doing so, you create a wedge shape crochet project bag.

I certainly wanted to give this project bag some great functionality and not just the looks! The leather handle is so fun and practical and makes this bag a great travel accessory when you want to crochet on the go. You can simply place the leather handle over your wrist and crochet stood up in a queue in the bank or waiting at the doctor’s surgery.

This is also where the small opening created comes in super useful. Right above the handle I incorporated a small opening which you can use to thread your working yarn through. Which means you can pop your wedge crochet project bag onto your wrist and use the yarn straight from the inside of the bag!

However, you can omit the hole and make the crochet pouch completely secure and use it for travel essentials or as a make up bag. The possibilities are endless!

Yarn I used for wedge crochet project bag

This is where it gets even better! I used yarn leftovers to make this gorgeous bag! You might remember this yarn from Spring Crochet Coatigan pattern. I had some more leftovers of the same yarn and I knew they will go together perfectly. I used Women’s Institute Smooth and Silky Aran but you can certainly use any worsted weight/aran yarn you have in your stash!

To finish off the crochet project bag you will also need zip and a leather handle. The handle is totally optional and you can replace it with crocheted one of you wish to. However, I think the leather handle really gives it a modern timeless look.
